Use Your Benefits Before the Year Is Up

November 21, 2013

November is almost over. After that, 2014 is just a blink away. Have you gotten the most out of your dental benefits this year? If not, there’s still some time to take advantage of what you have left with a regular checkup or a general and restorative service from Dooley Dental.

Every year comes with a deductible set by your insurance company. Once your deductible’s been paid, your insurance company will start covering your care, until your yearly maximum has been reached. But many patients who have paid their deductible may still have part of their yearly maximum left over. Why not use that to receive extra year-end care from Dr. Dooley?

Any amount of your yearly maximum not used up by the year’s end will be gone when 2014 arrives. The New Year will also come with a new deductible, and possibly new premiums or co-pays. All of which means that, if you already know you need help, don’t put it off.

With what’s left of 2013, find out how Dr. Dooley and his Spring Lake dental team can help you. Call us today to schedule your final appointment with Dooley Dental. Even if you just want to see us to start planning your care for next year, we’re always happy to help.

We’re committed offering excellent general, cosmetic, and restorative care to patients from Spring Lake, Avon, Brielle, Manasquan, Belmar, Sea Girt, Wall Township, and surrounding New Jersey cities.

Avoid Too Much Sugar This Halloween

October 31, 2013

Everyone knows Halloween and candy are inseparable. But you also know that sugar isn’t good for your smile. When sugar comes into contact with the bacteria in your mouth, that leads to the creation of acid, which then causes decay and cavities. A little candy, followed by brushing and flossing, won’t hurt, but you should avoid consuming large amounts—something that’s especially hard during these last few months of the year.

That’s why Dr. Ed Dooley wants to recommend switching to xylitol for this Halloween and beyond. Xylitol is a natural sweetener that responds differently to bacteria in the mouth. Instead of creating acid, it makes your mouth more neutral, which also makes it hard for harmful bacteria to cling to teeth and cause cavities. That’s why some natural toothpaste brands use xylitol as the key cavity-fighting ingredient instead of fluoride.

Beyond this, xylitol is used to sweeten certain brands of candy, like Ice Chips or Dr. John’s Candies. It can also be substituted for sugar in baking, with a ratio of 1:1.

Do you want to learn more about xylitol and how it can be used? Call Dooley Dental today with your questions or for an appointment. We’re happy to serve patients from Spring Lake, Avon, Brielle, Manasquan, Belmar, Wall Township, and the surrounding New Jersey cities.
